The McDonnell Douglas F / A-18 Hornet is an American multi-role combat aircraft that was put into service in the early 1980s. Thanks to the digital technologies and the many information provided by its head-up collector, it has the ability to carry a great diversity of weapons
In order to replace its Mirage III and Hawker Hunter, the Swiss army chose the F / A-18 in October 1988 for its versatility, the possibility of using short runways and its two reactors. Apart from the first aircraft, the planes were assembled by the Federal Aircraft Factory (now Ruag) in Emmen. The first F / A-18 was received by the army on 25 January 1996 and the last in 1999. In 2007, an F / A-18 modernization program was put in place.
