The Macintosh project began in the late 1970s. The idea was to create a simple computer, cheap and therefore accessible to average consumers. The name of the project comes from the name of the favorite apple of one of its designer, the McIntosh.

The first Macintosh is launched on January 24, 1984 and is the first commercial success for a computer using a mouse and a graphical interface instead of the command-line interface.
